CUSTOM SHOP BUSINESS CARDS

In the CCC-Series on printed material we show you here aĀ fine selection of business cards from US custom shops in the 1950’s and 60’s.

With my background in graphic design I have always really been very interested inĀ the old business cards from the Custom Car builders from the late 1940’s and up.Ā The printing techniques, the typefaces, the lay-out and the special designs. They are always very neat to look at… and even better to collect.

It is really funny that when these business cards where created the shop owner would have never thougth about these items once would be collector items. They were only a means of promoting their business, or simply to give clients or posseble future clients a way to get in touch.

Some of these Business Cards are trully work of arts, they are very well designed with paper choice matching the looks the shop owner would like to display. While others were nothing more that theĀ words in a nice letter font the printer happened to have handy at the time of the order.

In this article we are showing you a selection of some nice cards fromĀ some better know shops as well as some shop I had even never heard about… enjoy.

  • I’ll be damnedā€¦.saw green “Custom Center” business card. Haven’t seen that card in years.
That’s from 1961ā€¦I was just starting out on my custom painting and striping business out of that co-op shop.
The upholstery was being done by Dave Gade, who’s still in the custom upholstery business.
The custom engine work was handled by Mike Nordahlā€¦.who owns “Willy’s Replacement Parts” today.

  • Very cool to see these old cards.

Manuel Reyes, do you have a contact for Dave Gade? He was working out of an airport hangar in Corona, California last time I tried to look him up. My dad let him borrow some ’36 Ford Phaeton side window curtains to make patterns from in the ’70s and never got them back…would be nice to see if he might still have them. Crazy, I know…but ya never know.
