ANOTHER 50’S CUSTOM CAR GETS RESTORED

It is always good news to hear that another old custom car gets found and restore back to its former glory. This time Sue Wise, wife of the cars current owner Gary Wise send us some great photos of a nearly complete restored Lloyd Myers 49 Mercury.

We will be doing an more in-depth article on this late 1950’s build Custom Mercury when the car is completely finished. But we wanted to tell you the news about it now, and show you a few photos from how the car looked in the late 1950’s early 1960’s before the restoration and after the restoration.

The very distinctive front end of the car uses canted 1958 Lincoln headlights a reshaped grille opening with tubular grille. The windshield was chopped and a padded top created for it. The side trim on the car comes from a 1955 DeSoto.

The car has been painted white, root-beer and lime green in its live. At one point Lloyd drove the car to a Seattle Car show when the Padded top blew off and he lost it.

In 1993, Gary Wise bought the remains of the car in Olympia, Washington. The car was in bare metal, partly disassembled and the original front end was stored some were else.
Gary slowly began to restore the car back to its former glory. But during this time he also worked on many other projects so progress on the 1949 Mercury was slow.  Gary hopes to have the car completely finished in spring of 2014. Recreating the padded top is the only real challenge still left.

  • Glad to see that the Lloyd Meyer Mercury has been restored to its original custom condition.
I took the picture of the convertible at the 1960 Seattle Rod and Custom Show. It was metallic green at the time and he won first place in Full Custom Convertible and I received a second. Around 1962 Lloyd Meyers was living in Everett, Wa for a short time and drove an orange ’34 Ford Victoria. I got to ride in it and I remember it had a “hot flathead” engine.
