Fred is in the New England Hot Rod Hall of Fame. His notes say that he first drag-raced it on the Beverly Airport starting at 5 AM until they were blown off by the first plane that landed. (He was part of the movement to get the airports to allow drag racing.)
Fred drag-raced until 1978. Fred still loves to go fast in his snowmobile, and he recently told me the last 7 miles of his last ride he went 92 mph!
The car was featured in Honk Magazine in 1953. They weren’t sure if it was a hot rod or custom. Fred won a trophy for the car, and a picture is included.
The car was restored in 2009 with all new everything. New paint & interior to be as it was first done. Also with a new grill and headlight trim; new 8-BA flathead engine with polished Edelbrock heads and intake; new carbs; late model distributor machined to fit; new radiator with electric fan (does not over heat); new generator and starter; new brakes and lines; HP coated exhaust; re-chromed bumpers; new Firestone tires; new 39 dash with new gauges and steering wheel; and a new cloth wiring harness.
It starts right up, drives good and brakes great! Fred never had a hood on his car as it added weight. When it was restored they had a hood made for it. It looks good either way.
Rik,
Do you know if this car did or didn’t sell please?
I’ve some potential interest if it’s still potentially for sale.
Thanks Justin
