I just wonder if the two Cords are the same car? Custom coupe body and Woodlites !

Mmm? Different license plates, if that counts for anything. Pretty decent tyres…for a clown.

Pretty good description Tony. Its no wonder those tires did not make it to the mass production status.

    I’m convinced after studying it more. . . Same Cord. . . .
What did I hear you say Tony???, I love those tires. They probably look stroboscopic when you drive down highway like on the lp turntable.

The “other” Cord also came from the same The Old Motor site.. different article. There is no mentioning that it is the same car. But it sure does look like its the same car. to me.

If you two think it is the same car, I’d be interested to know why.

Look at the front mounted spotlight. Find another thirties Cord with one of them installed. Rare option. That is the giveaway for me. A 29 30 Cord convert is a very rare car start with as well.
Custom bodied Cord coupes probably can be counted on one hand. I suspect that the car got to be a few years old and then got updated with a new 34 style Custom body. It is unusual that it is photographed at the exact same location making me suspect that it was owned by the business owner and perhaps used to promote the Vogue brand. Clown tires aside it is a stunning car. Both as original and as a Custom.
PS further research shows it’s a Weymann body.

    Thanks Quentin.

Very interesting stuff on the Vogue tires. Very odd looking tires.

The images above come from an intersting article on The Old Motor site.

Oh my gosh, I would hate to clean those! Killer picture though!

I’m thinking about running either 7.10 ‘stones or 7.10 super cushions on my Merc.

So here’s my questions for those running Firestones:

Do you run tubes? I’m assuming you do.
Can they be run with tubes on a more modern rim? (chevy rally rims)
    How do they drive?
    Any problems with blowouts?
    Any problems in general?

And here’s my questions for those running Goodyear super cushions?

What do you like/dislike about these tires?
    Any problems with them?
Any problems running them on newer modern rims?

I like to drive my Merc alot. I am rebuilding her after having a radial tire blow out at 70 MPH and striking the guardrail, so I’m a little leery of tires right now (espically at $220+ a tire).

I have the Goodyear SUper Cushion 6.70-15 on my ’50 Ford as you can see in the pictures Rik posted a few pages back. I think they ride very well and you can’t beat the look, especially if you are trying to capture a pre-’54 kustom appearance. I will say that they like to grab the grooves in the road as if there were imaginary train tracks..sometimes I wonder if my Ford thinks it is a trolley…but you will get that with any bias play tire. I drove my Ford with radials one time for about 100 miles because I didn’t have the Goodyears yet and it was night and day compared to bias ply. I think it’s kind of like high heels- women look great in them, but are they really 100% comfortable…sometimes vanity IS more important. 🙂 Radials just take away from the look of a period-correct kustom, in my opinion.

My Chevy 3100 with Diamond Back Classic radial tires. Size is 225/70 X 15 all around. Steel chrome wheels with baby moons. Whitewall is 3″ wide.
I have about 3-4k miles on these, truck cruises down highway at 75, rides and handles OK, no issue with tires.

My preference on a 49-50 merc is the Firestone 710-15 with the 3 1/4″ white wall.
