June 1, 2018 at 10:15 #58959Rik HovingKeymasterThe Kookie Kar will be restored at Brizio’s.
There are stories that the new owner wants to try and keep the paint that is on the car now, thinking it is the original paint job Larry Watson put on it in the early 1960’s. But this is in fact a newer paint job done by Teddy Z around 1964.
Larry painted the Kookie Kar in pearl white and candy red flames, the Teddy Zegremski version was pearl white and candy tangerine.
Don Boeke‘s words
“This version is Acrylic synthetic pearl. The flames are in tangerine metalflake. Was done by ‘Teddy Z’ ( Zegremski ) in ’63-64, who had a shop in Wyndotte Michigan. The skulls were re done by local custom car shop in Dayton, along with the new dash, the hand made fuel cap, pinstripes and other details. I , with Jim, transported it to Michigan, and picked it up when it was completed in the just modified trailer that was built by Creative Metals in New Carlisle, Ohio, by Don Mann ( It was the original trailer that came with the car when acquired from Norm with a canvas cover).”

I guess the question is. What version are they going to restore it to since it’s not Watson’s paint on it anymore.

Terry Bozio took this neat close up photo of the paint.

According the Klairmont Museum they are evaluating all options at this moment and will soon decide what to do, preserve as is, or restore to how it was in its glory-days.

June 2, 2018 at 21:00 #59017Rik HovingKeymasterAs for the Kookie Kar… perhaps the choice they made on replacing the radial tires to the new set of U.S. Royals from the Coker Tire Company shows to which version the car will be restored. The Larry Watson painted pearl white and candy red flame version used these tires! (Rodder’s Journal pictures)

I understand why Mr Street did it but the high back seats and the double blowers take away from the lines of a true hot rod.

June 28, 2018 at 05:57 #59360Rik HovingKeymasterYes I saw VooDoo Larry’s amazing video on Facebook last night. That was really amazing seeing the crew at the museum working on the car, getting some of the electronics going, and the engine running. Very amazing.
Trying to get the video to share here as well.
