Cody Walls of Traditional Metalcraft has been doing some amazing metal work at his Milton, Delaware based shop.

There are several very interesting and very inspiring Custom Projects in his shop, and Cody is sharing some progress photos on his Instagram. So I asked if it was okay if I shared his projects on the CCC for all of us here to enjoy.

I could have added them to the Progress Customs Thread… but then they get buried easily. So I decided to create a new thread for these Traditional Metalcraft projects. I will be adding new pictures of these new in progress projects as often as Cody shares them.

Doug Melson 1947 Dodge business coupe

Doug’s 1947 Dodge business coupe bounced around to a number of different shops before finally coming to Traditional MetalCraft. It was in primer and ready for paint, but some of the workmanship left room for improvement. One thing led to another, and now we’re starting from scratch, basing the build on an Eric Black design that gives the unique body a refined elegance unlike any other Dodge business coupe we’ve seen.  (all words by Cody Walls)

Here is the Rendering of the #47dodgeproject That Eblackdesign did for us. If you know what a stock 47 dodge looks like than you know a lot has been changed here in a way to make this car sleek and sexier .

    eastcoastchanneljob_47-dodge-project-23

This thing has been to many of different shops , with no direction over the years and it has 1/2 thick bondo threw out . So we’re starting this project off by Sending it out today and having it sand blasted . Spannky17 and Richard Glymph will be doing the body and paintwork once I finish all the metal work and MikeySeats will be doing the interior .

The #47dodgeproject is back down on its Art Morrison chassis . Now it’s time to start cutting it up . Don’t worry those horrible wheels are not staying they are just rollers .

    eastcoastchanneljob_47-dodge-project-02

Fixing someone’s else roof abortion . Between a bad roof stretch , bubble gum mig job , and a heavy lead seam , it’s easier to cut it out and start over .

Great work by Cody but man does Eric Black ever have a great eye for how subtle changes make such a huge difference in the look of a vehicle.

Some more Progress on the #47dodgeproject .The original grill that came with these cars are plain out ugly , so Eblackdesign designed the front of the dodge with a more classy 49 Dodge Wayfair grill . The main goal of this project was to make this car look better but still keep a lot of it Dodge. I have a lot of work yet to do to blend the sheet metal into the new grill area , but from this angle things are looking good .

    Art Demarest
    1948 Chevy Coupe
    New Jersey

Art Demarest brought his ’48 Chevy to us when he discovered the chop job, done by the previous owner, wasn’t up to snuff. Instead of re-chopping the coupe, Art decided he wanted a Carson-style lift-off top. We’ve extended the package tray and framed the new top for a classic, taildragger profile. Richard and Brandon Glymph at Absolute Rod & Custom Paint laid down the final finish. Stay tuned as we finish it up…this one’s going to be cool.

Next project on the block for #traditionalmetalcraft is Art Demarest 48 Chevy tail dragger . It was at Spannky17 being bodywork and primed , now I have to make the stainless moldings fit the chop . Not an easy task , but it will be fun . Then it will go back to Richard and Spannky17 to be painted .

    eastcoastchanneljob_Art-47-Chevy-03

Well that escalated quickly , goodbye roof , I’m going to be making a Carson for it because the chop was pretty bad underneath . Just because it looks good on the out side doesn’t mean its up to par underneath .

Sometimes waiting for the right part to present it self will save an awful lot of time later on . In this case I found a convertible windshield frame for#Arts48chevyproject . Making the Carson top that much easier to fab to.

Making progress on #arts48chevyproject , welded in but not finished the conv windshield frame , and cut down 40 ford vent windows . This has been a little bit of a challenge but this have been fun

    eastcoastchanneljob_Art-47-Chevy-14

Just finished chopping down #arts48chevyproject vent window , metalfinished and polished it out like it was never even cut . That’s the upside to working with stainless .

One of the hardest things in this business is chopping and modifying paper thin stainless moldings . You get one shot at it and if you mess up it’s better just to throw that piece in the trash and start over. Needless to say I’ve messed up a lot of moldings in my past trying to get to this point .

arts48chevyprojectpainted and being put back together by Spannky17 and Richard Glymph. It’s hard to believe this car came to me a little over a year ago just for stainless work and it was a coupe . Kinda crazy that I was able to turned a bad chop job into a convertible .

    eastcoastchanneljob_Art-47-Chevy-25

#arts48chevyprojectis getting its final touches with Spannky17 and Richard Glymph . Next it goes to upholstery. This was a fun project to be involved in.
