April 28, 2020 at 07:43 #67168Rik HovingKeymaster“Masking completed…sealer up next. Included a couple shots of my booth as well. I donāt paint on a regular basis, but when I do, I like to take my time and not be rushed. So I made my own booth. Also prevents putting the body on a trailer and transporting to someone elseās booth, where potential damage could occur during transit. I just prefer to run my own show on my own schedule.”

“Sealed! Nice to see the highlights and shadows visible in a different color other than yellow primer. Next step will be to sand the sealer, inspect, then spray color. Canāt wait to see the body lines light up in some metallic paint!”

Also, again this displays some amazing and incredible workmanship and commitment.

āThe Hocker ā40 is ready for color. It will be receiving fresh coats of custom mixed silver blue metallic, just as it first did in 1956 by George Barris himself. Junior Conway handled all the prep work, and has been very informative about the historical details of the paint job(s) during that time period.
I spent a ton of time and persistence to get the color correct, and look forward to seeing it on the car.
The sealer was sanded and inspected prior to color, for an ultra smooth surface to lay the base over.
Stay tuned for more updates in the next few days.āEnjoy the beauty of Customizing

“Finally in color! Itās been a long wait to hit this point, and worth every bit of it. The Hocker ā40 is once again in itās sought after color of silver blue metallic, 64 years after it was first applied at Barris Kustoms. This car has had a rough life since itās glory days of the 50ās, and itās great to see it properly restored after all this time. Extremely happy with the color so far…it takes on so many shades in different light and angles. The base has been sealed with a few coats of DBC 500, and next up is to apply the scallops on hood and fenders. I will be using enlarged prints from 1958 provided to me by the Petersen Museum @petersenmuseum for reference. Great feeling to finally see some paint!!”

“Before laying out the scallops on the Hocker ā40, I spent plenty of time studying proportions and coordinates in old photos in order to achieve the best accuracy possible. The enlarged color photos from the ā58 Car Craft magazine archives were most important, especially for color matching, but I also contacted The Petersen MuseumĀ @petersenmuseumĀ and they graciously provided me with additional files from their archives, which I had enlarged.
I laid out few samples, decided what looked good, dialed in the measurements and symmetry, then moved forward with final taping and masking.”Enjoy the beauty of Customizing
