“When thinking about mounting the rear antenna, I realized there wasn’t a radio in the dash. No reason for an antenna without radio. It must of been filled in during the 70’s-80’s, American Graffiti time maybe. I could see on backside of dash where it was filled in.”
“So…found an old radio ebay that looked close, cut dash to fit, and then polished original plastic display and applied thin transparent blue tape to match the existing theme of instrument cluster and clock. It looks so cool and will be nice finishing touch to the dash. Aimed to install it so it at the same angle as the old pic. Cut off the volume/station knobs and mounted them separately. Got the main faceplate where I wanted and fabbed some mounts on the backside. Stoked with how it looks!”

“The vent wings are original Barris units. They were rough around the edges and top ends were too short, thus exposing more glass than normal. The passenger side bottom radius was really tight as well. I cut and revised all areas necessary and improved the fit. So much time into making these fit the new Steele Rubber correctly and have smooth corners & edges, while still preserving the original metal.”

“Finishing up the copper prep on the bumpers and guards for the Hocker ‘40. I handle the blocking myself, then have my plating shop do the final color buff and plating. Here’s a front guard ready to go. The fitment of the handmade lens turned out fantastic and it snaps right into place.”

“Hocker ‘40 plate and frame. I figured locating an original plate frame would be difficult, so I just made one. Simple task, but an important detail on the car. This style of frame was widely used during the 50’s era on many nicely finished customs. The original license plate luckily remained with the car throughout the years, and is freshly restored. A NOS ‘57 sticker in perfect condition completes the package.”

The Tom Hocker ‘40 Ford in final prime. These photos were taken a few weeks ago, and final sanding is underway. So much work involved to reach this point, combing over the body, ensuring every area is dialed. It’s been an honor to bring this authentic Barris Kustom back to life and treating it to the proper restoration it deserves. The Hocker family, along with many others, are excited to see the car back on the show scene some 60 years after its heyday. I’ll be spraying color soon, and can’t wait to see the results!

“Hood fitment and bodywork detail on the Hocker ‘40. Center peak has good definition, gaps are dialed in, and great alignment with cowl and belt line. Not an easy task on a ‘40 Ford hood.”

KeymasterFew more detail photos from the freshly sanded/polished copper plated parts…. getting ready for Chrome Plating.
From John….
“Lots of time and patience involved in getting a tight fit of the bumper guards. Makes no sense to invest time into nice fitting lenses, and not do the same on guard-to-bumper fitment. In the end, it’s how the whole package flows together. It’s either right….or it’s not. I also capped the backsides of the guards and license frames, which will provide nice reflections and an overall classy look. All of the copper was hand sanded prior to my plating shop doing the finishing touches. Gunna look killer in chrome.”
