“Early ‘57 Hocker history. The car was blue at this point, with single headlights, and would receive quads later in the year due to an accident. Included is some memorabilia from Oakland & Sacramento, along with newspaper clippings and a handwritten statement from Lois Hocker. First photo courtesy of Brett Barris. Others are from, which I have high resolution un-watermarked copies of for my personal collection. Tom receiving trophy in Oakland with cig in hand to ease the excitement, and the ‘40 parked with the Kopper Kart and Junior Conway’s Ford.”

“‘58-‘59 Hocker history. The quads were installed in mid ‘57, after an accident & damage on the passenger side fender. Once the repair/style change was completed, Junior Conway prepped it for paint, and George did the blend and shot the scallops.
First two photos are ‘59 Roadster Show, and third shows the spot where the car parked in the back left.
Next photos are from Al Paloczy for the Car Craft feature, followed by a letter from Dick Day regarding tech sheet info for the upcoming feature.

“Late 60’s-80’s Hocker history. Many remember the car in American Graffiti. It was painted white with purple ribbons in the late 60’s. The car was owned by Ralph Garcia at the time, and his son Tyler shared some photos of what became of it in the following years after the movie. It had a rough life for long time. Stolen & recovered, yet survived until the late 2000’s when original owner Ed Hegarty bought it back from Ralph. Ed purchased the car in early 60’s after Hocker sold it the concrete guy who was building his pool and deck as him and Lois were settling down with their new daughter. The concrete guy lost interest shortly after and sold it to Ed. Then Ralph had it in between.”

“Don Granata shared these photos from 2003. Don’s family owned Granata’s Pizza in Berkeley, and were friends with the Garcias. Don remembers riding in the ‘40 in late 60’s, at 10 years old, when Ralph would stop by frequently to pick up food. They remained friends until Ralph passed away. Don stopped by last summer to see the ‘40 and shared plenty of other stories from his time knowing Ralph and the car. Thanks again Don for contributing to the history, greatly appreciated.”
