Dave, I’d like to see some photos of your Buick that was in Rod & Custom with the Dodge grill pieces. I always really liked that car.

The car has changed owners several times over the years. It was even in Japan for a few years, now it is back in the states but you wouldn’t recognize it. The latest owner put his custom touch on it.I will find photos of it and some of my other cars and 80’s car shows when I get a chance. I’m technology challenged and most of my old pictures are 35mm.
Customs came on very strong in the early 80’s. Let’s keep this thread alive. If you have photos of customs from this timeline please post them.
February 12, 2014 at 09:35 #10141Rik HovingKeymasterScott Pavey has been sharing some really great early 1980’s photos on his Facebook. Some of those customs shown had a huge impact on me when I just started to find out about Custom Cars.. or perhaps better said started to fine tune my taste in what I liked and what not.
Posies 36 Ford.

March 3, 2014 at 06:05 #10899Ron BrooksParticipantA few more from the albums…….

March 3, 2014 at 06:21 #10902Rik HovingKeymasterRon…. those are so great… They sure bring a lot of memories to me as well.. And I was not even there.
Some of those I remember from staring at very tiny black and white photos in the 80’s magazines. Back then I had no idea I one day would see photos of these same cars on this site.
Great photos… great customs. Please do not stop.Enjoy the beauty of Customizing

Fantastic thread, Ron. Thanks for sharing! I have always admired your Chevy at Paso and Santa Maria.

March 31, 2014 at 06:25 #11901Rik HovingKeymasterooooh such beauties .. Thank you Ron.
Stardust hen it looked at its best with the proper stance. That car alone did so much for Customs in that era.
And “Thee Forty One” I so much loved that car back then. But for me it was impossible to find photos. Still think it should have had a front bumper. But that car had it all for me. It was perfect in all aspects.(my style has changed a little since then, but I still think this car is really well done). I heard a story that the upholster guy on purpose did not finish the padded top in time for its show debut to make sure the audience could see his interior better at this show. Do you know if that is a true story?Enjoy the beauty of Customizing
March 31, 2014 at 06:45 #11903Ron BrooksParticipantI think “Thee Forty One” might have been upholstered by Jerry Sahagon, and he was pretty well known for running late on his work, he just may not have made the deadline.
March 31, 2014 at 07:06 #11904Ron BrooksParticipantRik , here is another angle of “Thee Forty-one”
March 31, 2014 at 09:33 #11906Rik HovingKeymasterThanks for the additional info and photo of Thee Forty One.

April 1, 2014 at 13:04 #11927Bert GustafssonParticipantWow, haven’t seen that car (thee forty one) in a while. It was a cover car together with the Stardust on the #2 issue of Tex Smiths Custom cars magazine from -89 and I thought it was one of the coolest ever when I first saw it back then. The story goes that it was originally customized in the forties? Thanks for posting Ron.
Also, I do agree with Rik on the front bumber.April 2, 2014 at 02:00 #11986DavidParticipantThanks Ron! I love all these 80’s customs. I ate up every ounce of them I could find. Pretty sure I had every issue of Classic and Custom memorized. Funny story about that magazine: I had gotten the Grease Machines book for Christmas and shortly after, ran across an early issue of Classic and Custom on the news stand (had a baby blue 5 window on the cover). I scooped it up, flipped through it and noticed my dad had left the store (it was in a mall). I was so excited about the magazine, I ran after him shouting, “Dad!! A magazine about customs!” In my excitement, I didn’t think about that I was running out the door of the store, magazine in hand….much to the unhappiness of the clerk who chased after me. Much embarrassed, I got back into the store, my dad returned and allowed me to purchase it. Shortly later, I took all my birthday money and ordered every back issue and subscribed. Best money a teenager could have spent. 🙂
April 2, 2014 at 06:47 #11989Ron BrooksParticipantHere are the photos of the 41 from the Don Montgomery book and the Tex Smith magazine……I have no idea what ever happened to the car!
