Hi Guys,
I have been struggling a lot with the CCC site lately. All kind of plugin issues, and I knew for a long time that I had to get a new layout theme, since the one we used from the beginning was not updated anymore.
Last week I had to load a new version of WordPress, the base system we use to run the CCC on, and Boom… that was it. Several features of the old theme, and several old plug ins we used do not work together with the new WordPress update.
Resulting in a totally screwed up layout of the main site, and several features in the Forum that are not working properly anymore. I got the image upload function in the Forum semi restored with a simple plugin, and will try to find a better one in the next few weeks. But as for the main site, I’m not sure what I will do. The Layout theme we used is not available anymore and anything else we would install will result most likely in a some, to a lot of, work on each and every page.Ā and right now I just do not have the time for that.
As you might have noticed for some time there have not been any updates in the articles on the CCC by me. All I have been able to do was adding to the Forum. Mainly because I did not have to time to do article, plus with the old program, it was nearly impossible to get new stuff to work on the site.Ā I’m working full time in my wife’s business now, and my CCC and other Custom Car related time has sadly been limited to a bare minimum.
My goal is to keep the CCC running… since this is my baby… but right now I’m unsure how. Possibly I have to close the main site and keep the Forum open until I have found a “simple” way to the keep the pages to look as good as possible.
to be continued….

September 5, 2020 at 15:37 #68343TonyParticipantThanks Rik, I thought something had changed when I posted last. Works okay.
September 5, 2020 at 22:28 #68352Larry PointerParticipantVery sad that this has happened.Ā Praying you have backup storage/discs/flash drives of such irreplaceable historical information.Ā I think of Memo’s posts, and of the different interviews with those pioneer customizers and the car owners.
The forums have stepped up to more than fulfill our cravings for information on projects and information on discoveries, but there was something really special about all the various articles.

September 6, 2020 at 01:13 #68354Quentin HallParticipantItās been a huge undertaking to put it together… and as someone who didnāt care for customs until I discovered this site in 2013 I can only say thank you for the love, devotion and hard work you have committed for us all to enjoy.
I know I would not have found the direction that my life is in now without it. Everyday the art of customising brings me happiness.
September 6, 2020 at 14:25 #68358mark wojcikParticipantI, too, hope for the best in your situation, Rik! While I don’t post often, I check in every day to see what’s happening in the Kustom world. Do what’s best for yourself at this point in your life, but I hope it includes us!
September 6, 2020 at 16:18 #68359TorchieParticipantI echo all the above comments.
From Quentin (a somewhat new, but greatĀ custom guy. To Larry (A long time custom guy.) and everyone in between, you have provided a unmatched source for information as well actual help on designs and builds. If you have to let the site sit fallow for a while. So be it. I for one will support what ever it is you feel you need to do.
When I win the lottery you and this site are on my “share” list. Then it will be “NO worries” as our friends Quentin and Tony might say.
Peace and strength to you……..

September 7, 2020 at 10:03 #68375Rik HovingKeymasterThanks for the kind words.
I had to “update” the site with a temporarily layout…
Far from ideal. But this is the only way for now to keep the CCC open. The old design theme did not allow to upgrade the tech behind the site to keep it all running with the latest versions of WordPress, and keep our host happy. The behind the scenes error were too much, and I was forced to take dramatic actions.
The Forum will be working like normal, only looks a bit different for now. Don’t worry about loosing material, its all there, and everything on the Forum that will be added now will just stay there if a new layout will be used.
I hope to be able to get a better layout as soon as possible.

September 7, 2020 at 11:48 #68382James DParticipantThe new format seems to work well, even if itĀ“s a bit less slick.
September 7, 2020 at 19:16 #68390Tom NielsenParticipantThanks Rik for all that you do with your CustomĀ Car Chronicle to keep us custom car fans informed and it is the first thing I check when I get on the computer in the morning.Ā I can only imagine how difficult it must be to work in your family business and still maintain the CCC as well.Ā The new look seems to work fine.Ā I also appreciate that you have helped me get my stories on the CCC to be shared.Ā Thanks for all of your contributions to the custom car world.

September 7, 2020 at 20:25 #68391Ian GibbonsParticipantSeems to be happening a lot on forums lately. Unfortunately they seem to be a dying breed that are struggling to keep up with ever changing technology and software updates. Thanks for all the hard work you put into this site Rik. It is very much appreciated!
September 7, 2020 at 22:01 #68392Mr. KoolParticipantThanks for your hard work Rik!! Like others here I don’t post a lot because I don’t have stuff to share but there’s not a day without coming here!!!
Thanks again.
September 7, 2020 at 23:50 #68394Larry PointerParticipantI’d like to express my appreciation, too.Ā Rik, you have given your all to bring back to life this artform of customizing.Ā And, wow, all around this old World, you have provided an”open shop” home base for sharing.Ā I can’t begin to count the friends we’ve all made of kindred spirits (obsessed?).Ā The help and support so freely given by any and all, without any snide or confrontational obnoxiousness….just priceless.Ā I, too, start my day checking into the CCC.Ā Thank you.
September 8, 2020 at 18:18 #68410DavidParticipantAs everyone has said above, I sure appreciate all the work you put into the site, Rik. Also, like yourself and others, life is full these days and my participation online is minimal other than clicking a likes here and there as I check in, but I do hit the forum nearly everyday and sure enjoy seeing what everyone is up to. I will continue to check in no matter what format the forum is and look forward to the day I have stuff to share. Great guys here, loads of talent and I sure am thankful for you providing a space for them to share it.
September 9, 2020 at 05:56 #68414Dave (a.k.a. rodncustomdreams)ParticipantYes –Ā thank you RikĀ for this wonderful internet home to all things related to traditional custom vehicles.
Keep us on the back burner while you take on your new endeavours; meanwhile, we will continue to enthusiastically support CCC and this forum – whatever form it may morph into.
