Weren’t the back doors already welded shut and it was headed to have the top done?

Correct David, but since then Billy changed his mind and decided to go for the stretch like the original SoCalif Plating ‘35  had.

I’m wondering did the Top get made? That was the last “installment” here. I hope they waited on that!

No, the top was not made. The car was sitting in line at Martinez industries to get the top grille and many other things handled when Billy decided for the stretch. So only the unfinished work on the welded rear door was “lost”.

“On top off all the things going on here, we are preparing the 35 phaeton for it’s stretch. The floors are being cut out and replaced. To many patch jobs on it to reuse it. And the trans tunnel will need a bit more work after the frame is stretched.”

“Both outer rails are bent. Time to prep for welding.”

 

“Both outer frame sections are in. Time to make the inner rails and connect the X-member again. Then I’ll box the section of frame.”

“Brand new driveshaft from a local shop out of Yucca valley. They do excellent and fast work.

Waiting on parts from the parts store to get the brake and fuel lines back together.”

“New floor blanks are cut for the SoCal plating truck clone. Amazing the amount of work to get the outer structure ready for this.

Now to get the beads layed out for strength.”

 

“Finishing the rolled edges on the SoCal Plating truck. It’s fun doing the dance with this panel and the planishing hammer.”
