For many years we have heard rumors about the SoCal Plating 1935 Ford designed by George DuVall and created by Frank Kurtis, and Jimmy Summers. Rumors that the car was still around, or long gone and how somebody had started to recreate it… Well We now know, its not a rumor, that Billy Powell has been collecting parts, and a base car to actually recreate the SoCalif. Plating ’35 Ford. This is some fantastic news that many early Custom Car enthusiast has been waiting for for many years. A full story on the original SoCalif Plating truck can be found HERE on the CCC>
So far a very nice ’35 Ford Phaeton has been acquired, which has been lowered a little. After looking for a long time Billy finally found an original DuVall brass windshield frame for the 35-36 Ford cowl. The windshield is currently being installed at the Faded Love Garage….. hopefully more coming soon.
The ’35 Ford Phaeton at Rex Rod & Chassis for a rewire 12v conversion, hydraulic Lincoln brakes, dropped axle, front tube shocks and new springs.

December 2, 2018 at 05:52 #61934TonyParticipantI’m sure someone else started a build thread on a re creation about 5-10 years ago but I never saw it finished. Hope this one goes all the way.
December 2, 2018 at 07:52 #61941Rik HovingKeymasterPerhaps you are referring to Lynn Bird‘s ’36 Ford project on the HAMB.
Lynn still has the project… and hopes to get back to it soon. He was side tracked with some hot rod projects.

I know all about being side tracked.
December 2, 2018 at 14:16 #61943WGParticipantGreat news , always liked that car when first saw photos of it 3 decades ago , got The Rodders Journal issue just for the article on it ! Will be good to see an authentic replica being built on the correct base car .
The original was such a significant car ,it’s hard to believe it was scrapped ,but it’s possible. If it turned up , that would have to be one of the most important discoveries , perhaps when this recreation is finished & publicised ,it might unearth new information on the original !

“Cowl vent filled. Still a few more holes to fill and have to take out some of the bead on the top of the dash, but almost ready to mount the Duvall Windshield.”
