Thanks a lot Rik!
February 19, 2022 at 08:06 #72971TinwolfParticipantFebruary 22, 2022 at 07:29 #72978Rik HovingKeymasterPat Ganahl shared these two pictures of the Buddy Ohanesian on his Instagram page.
Pats words…
“If I had to pick just one favorite custom (very hard), I’d have to say Buddy Ohanesian’s ’40 Merc convertible sedan. Legendary Harry Westergard did the front end with ’46 Chev grille, smooth hood, and chopped windshield. Then 19-yr. old Dick Bertolucci hand-formed the perfectly shaped and fitted steel lift-off top, did more mods, and painted it Ruby Maroon. Buddy drove it daily, but these photos were taken at Bonneville ’51, where he not only drove it from Sacramento, but also flat-towed a much-chopped ’34 coupe to race. Thank god this one has been preserved, now owned by @happydaze40”

February 22, 2022 at 08:21 #72981TonyParticipantBlows my mind.
One of the swoopiest fastback customs…and it’s a 4 door. One of my faves too.
I think I’ve decided Marcia Campbell’s is my favorite 41 – 48 coupe. (Even though I think the bumpers are a bit heavy.)
February 22, 2022 at 15:24 #72982Larry PointerParticipantWhat they said! Now this is really weird: I dreamt about this very car last night! That lift-off roof. And how a 1941 Buick touring sedan, close-coupled 4-door could look, chopped and in the profile of a 4-door phaeton, might look taking cues from the Bertolucci roof. True confessions.
February 22, 2022 at 16:55 #72983Mild MitchParticipantAgree! This is without a doubt or second thought, my favorite car. I have been fortunate on several occasions to see it, up close. I even happened to (out of the blue) see it going down Interstate 80. It was one afternoon when Ed Hagerty was still around and driving it. I believe his son now has it. And yes, thank goodness this masterpiece has survived and thrived. Truly a spectacular custom.

February 22, 2022 at 18:47 #72984MichuParticipantBy chance today i‘ve found this picture of another 4door Mercury custom, very mild, but very cool too, as is the wheather around it…
February 22, 2022 at 19:13 #72985MichuParticipantI‘ve found the picture on http://www.shorpy.com on page 22. Rik, maybe it‘s better when you delete it, maybe it was not an good idea of mine to just take the picture and post it here. Maybe a link would be better? Sorry!

March 29, 2022 at 06:53 #73128MichuParticipantIs this the 1941 Ford wich was from Paul Garland now with new paint and some more modifications? (pictures from the hamb)
March 29, 2022 at 06:55 #73129Rik HovingKeymasterNo, don’t think this is the same car. The painted one is an older custom. I will check more on it later.

March 29, 2022 at 07:09 #73130Rik HovingKeymasterMichu, this is what the owner of the car @kustomkrazy (Jerry Ferrier) mentioned about the ’41 Ford.
“This car screams Ayala Brothers to me. Certainly not saying it is one but it definitely follows their styling. It came from California to the mid west in the early 80’s. A lot of the work on the car is definitely old with updates along the way. I’d LOVE to find some info”
