From JG Design Fab. I have shown some progress photos of this one before.
word by JG…
”My vision of a “parts car” finally coming to fruition. 49 Merc with the sweetheart belt / sweep line from a 56 Buick, Buick door tops, custom vent windows, custom drip rail and b pillar / c pillar. Chopped 2 1/2”. Lincoln door buttons hit a micro switch that hits the door poppers. Kaiser over rider flattened out in the rear, w Kaiser bullets re fit to the bumper / over rider with light sockets in them, using 53 Buick lenses. Not sold on the caps but had them lying around and they were shiney. This is my interpretation of if Mercury continued this body style into 53-55. Enjoy!”

The car has some interesting and subtle tweaks. Nice job.

September 13, 2021 at 15:57 #71729Rik HovingKeymasterTwo never before published snapshots of the Jerry Quesnel’s 1951 Mercury at the Barris Shop. The 2 snapshot were share by Jim Verden who visited the Barris Atlantic Blvd shop in Lynwood in August 1951 together with a friend. His friend took the photos and the now showing the Mercury from the rear shows Jim standing in the garage door opening.
Jerry’s Mercury had just been finished in white primer after Sam Barris and Jerry had chopped the top on the car. At the time Jim was more into drag racing than into Custom Cars and he had no idea that the car they looked at on that summer day would have such an impact to the Custom Car scene. Only 5 years ago, the now 91 year old Jim got on the internet and it was there he found out about the Mercury him and his friend had looked at and photographed some 65 years earlier. And was able to identify it as the Jerry Quesnel 1949 Mercury.
It is always very special when a new old photo of one of the custom Icons shows up, and these two are really special showing us some new angles, details and other cars at the Barris Kustom Shop. Hopefully I will be able to share some better details of these soon.
From the Jim Verden Collection.

Agreed!
Johnson Upholstery did the padded top, and Kevan Sledge did a lot of work on it as well.
