Chris has not shared much about it yet. Here is s bit of info he shared on his facebook.

ā€œ1939 Ford pickup, sectioned 5ā€ in the very early fifties. Lots of significant Ontario Hot Rod history surrounds this truck. I will post over the course of its restoration!ā€

‘Grays Powerhouse’ was a speedshop in Simcoe. Ontario Canada. Simcoe is a small town but was in the middle of tobacco growing and there was a lot of money in the area and hotrodding was big. The owner was Gray Yanocko and the shop existed until 70’s Gray was also a pioneer in Canadian drag racing and was instrumental in the development of what is now called ‘Toronto Motorsports park’ a major dragracing and roadracing facility. Gray also raced a dragster and ELTA president Mark Rogerson [ Fast Elvis on the HAMB]now owns it and is planning to restore it. The dragster was powered by a 4 cyl. Austin engine on ‘nitro’. Gray is long gone and the family has been trying to sell this old shop truck for a while. As ugly as it is there is a lot of history and I’m glad Chris Stapley has stepped up as he is the man with the vision and ability to restore it.

Great sample of how a lot of cars were dressed up in the 1940’s. Bolt on customizing to make your car looks better, and more special than how it came from the factory.

This one is especially interesting since it was modified about 25 years ago byĀ  Hot Rod Historian Don Montgomery. Don recently passed away. RIP.

The hop up and dress up parts used are all period perfect. DeSoto bumpers, Single bar flipper hub caps with beauty rings and teardrop rear fender skirts. The car is lowered just mildly using longer shackles and de-arched springs as was often done back then. The 15″ Ford wheels have 6.70 x 15 Firestone whitewall tires on them.

The Ford/Mercury flathead engine has added speed equipment including a 1936 McCulloch supercharger, Edlebrock heads, a Potvin cam and Fenton iron headers. A Stromberg 48 carburetor feeds the gas and spark is provided by a rare Harman & Collins dual coil distributor using two DSM Mallory coils. The smooth exhaust note comes through two original Douglass Steel pack mufflers. Howard Douglass had a header/muffler shop in Alhambra at that time and Harman & Collins ignitions came from Alhambra also.Ā Ā  NEAT!Ā  (special thanks to Richard Robertsonā€Ž)

    From Cody Burghdorf

A few more details to wrap up and the Krimson Kart will be ready for Detroit Autorama. It’s been around 55 years since it was last shown. Big thanks to @destination____unknown , @_leadsled52_ , and Darrell Powell for helping out with the last minute details.

Rob Radcliffe send these picture to me.

Very neat vintage Custom 1939 Ford Convertible with un-chopped padded top owned by his friend Matt.

The car was last painted in 1959, but it looks like the padded top was done much earlier… early/mid 1940’s is our guess.

Interesting Cadillac wagon at Detroit this weekend. Hard to tell from the angle of this picture but the wagon roof seems to make the back half of the car seem too short for the front.Ā  Neat idea none the less.

That one caught my eye as well Ian. Very interesting, really enjoying the concept… It is also one of the contenders for the Riddler award. Always good if a Custom Car is contender….
