I spotted an old Custom 1940 Ford with full fade away fenders in a couple of pictures AP Adam shared on his Instagram a few days ago. I recognized the car from a decade or so ago when it was yellow orange with a gray top. The story then was that it was an old Custom, but nobody had any more info on it. It was for sale for time time, then I never saw it again, until the AP Adam photos.
AP Adam mentioned he thought about taking the car to the Saturday GNRS outdoor show, and today he took it out to clean it up for the show on Saturday. He confirmed that it was an old custom, they had find enough evidence for the old style body work on the car when they stripped the paint for the new pearl white. But that was all he knew about it. Still no old photos, or stories from were the car comes, who did the original restyling and who was the original owner. I hope one day we will find out. I really like this full fade away fendered ’40 Ford…

February 17, 2019 at 10:36 #62920Rik HovingKeymasterAnother neat blog on the Petersen Museum website shows some great pictures of BOB BEAN’S 1951 FORD VICTORIA The Ford was elegantly restyled Bliss Custom Shop and Gordon’s Body Shop in Fresno, California. They replaced the Ford’s original side trim with the contoured trim of a 1954 Buick. A three-toned paint scheme in Gulfstream Blue , Bahama Blue and Alaskan White, highlighted the new trim. The rear wheel wells were “radiused,” cut out to match the rear trim. Check out the new blog with many more photos and info on the http://www.petersen.org site.

February 17, 2019 at 11:21 #62923Rik HovingKeymasterCame across this very neat Gil Ayala 1940 Mercury snapshot showing the Iconic Custom on the road, being used.
Sadly the picture/scan is very blurry… but still very interesting. (More on Gil’s Mercury in the CCC-Article)
The photo came with this caption:
“Ruth, Alan, Donna and kid from the shop lake Gregory in Crestline styling in a Custom Merc”

February 18, 2019 at 07:19 #62930Rik HovingKeymasterCould this be the same car?
No, the car in the photo I posted is Gil Ayala’s 1940 Merc, I have not added a link to my post showing the article on the car. However I do think that the Merc you saw was inspired by the Ayala Merc for sure.
