Ron Brooks has been sharing an amazing set of color slides he recently came across. 1948 and 1950 Car Show Kodachrome slides. I wanted them here on the CCC, but figures if I would add them in their own post then it would disappear too quick. So instead i figured this would be a good time to start a post about early Car color photos.

This is what Ron Brooks wrote about the color slides.

“A few years ago I bought a cool collection of Hot Rod paper history from a friend. His wife’s Grandfather had collected a huge Steamer trunk of Auto Memorabilia all the way back to the 1900s.⁣
I pretty much got everything Hot Rod related. Jack had told me that there were some old photo slides somewhere and I could copy them when he found them. He thought they were from an old Hot Rod show.. Fast forward a couple years and he shows up at my house with about 50 slides.⁣
They turn out to be Hot Rod Gold, the first batch is from the First Hot Rod Exposition held in Los Angeles in 1948. (probably the first Major Hot Rod Show in the Country).

The second group are from the First Oakland Roadster Show held in 1950.⁣
The most amazing part…….they are all Kodachrome Color and were taken by Byron Schroeder⁣
Here are a couple from the 1948 show.”⁣

Wow! Color and quality photos! This is truly an amazing find. I look forward to seeing more. I’m happy they didn’t just end up in trash.

    Thank you Rik.

Geoff Hacker share these two early 1950’s color slides.

This is what Geoff wrote about the slides.

“Today’s post is the result of a great foto find by a good friend of ours – Joel Driskill. Joel found these photos as part of a larger set of photos posted recently from the late 1940s, and we’ve reached out to the owner of these photos to learn more about the shoot.

From the other photos we’ve seen, it looks like the 1947 Kurtis-Omohundro Comet was on a specialty sports car sales lot. We’re hoping to learn more soon. Always great to have vintage photos of our cars, especially since they’re so one of a kind!
Pictured here is the 1947 Kurtis-Omohundro Comet in its original blue the year it was completed. We always thought it was first black, but now I know why it showed that way in the B&W photos.
The other photos taken at the time in the collection I found of other cars show that it may have been on a high end car lot for sale.

These are the first color photos of either car I’ve found from when it was first built. I’m trying to research more info on them now, but thought we would share with you all!
Thanks again to Joel Driskill for sharing this great find with us.”

These photos are really great! Thanks a lot for sharing! I recognized the 41 Ford dash in the green Roadster from the books „Hot Rods and Custom Cars“ and „Hot Rod Gallery 2“:
