Still trying to figure out the ‘dos rond’ Vedette, since I´m back in Europe again and trying to think of a car that I can sneak past the TüV. I think I screwed up last time by trying to keep the standard gutter line and following it through to the top of the trunk lid. Once you commit to that, then your side windows have to stretch out to follow the gutter line. When I was looking at the late 40s Pontiac and Cadillac ‘torpedo’ bodies and realised how they´d done it, with smooth roof sides and shortened gutters. The whole effect was much better, where you can make an idealised teardrop shape to the side windows.

That twodoor fastback design looks beautiful , clearly a missing model in the FoMoCo lineup , think what beautiful customs that could have been built out of those !

Simca Vedette got the fastback design that was also planned for 1949-51 Ford , Mercury and Lincoln but that didnt make it to production except for the -49 Lincoln Cosmopolitan

Yes, what a pity there were never two door fastback Mercuries. Never saw that fastback shoebox before either.

One thing I noticed with these fastbacks is this – that when you chop one, you quickly start to lose the nice teardrop shape to the roof. The more you chop one, the more it flattens it out, which is a shame when that shape is the very thing that is so appealing about them. I did a full height “stock version” first and I almost like it better.

If we´re chopping fastbacks….this one would be a total nightmare! Pity, as the end result could be pretty special. I applied the same idea as with the Vedette. The problem is that there isn´t enough curve in the roof. I´ve ended up curving the door frame tops to make it work. And that´s just one thing….

Those Nash bathtubs are tough. You could avoid chopping the top altogether and just section the body under the headlights. Sleeker than stock, but the roof curvature remains.

Yeah, there´s for sure no simple way to “fix” one.

You really nailed the chopped Nash, I think it looks amazing.
The Continrntal is also an interesting idea, almost like a sixties Mark II.

    Thanks Bert!

That was exactly the idea with the Continental.

I wondered what a 40 Ford Pick Up would look like with a Packard grill:
