April 18, 2017 at 02:29 #49657Quentin HallParticipantIs Sikaflex traditional?
April 18, 2017 at 12:18 #49658Doug CharterParticipantHi Palle….Do you want to rechrome the piece…There are options to weld……
April 19, 2017 at 06:56 #49674PalleJParticipantHi Doug…i need to rechrome both pieces. the problem is that the upper part is castet in ´potmetall´
i just need to live with a gap between the two pices.off course i will make them fit better.. i am working on the stainlees with the circle pattern. that will be a one piece and will hide most of the gap.
okay Q…I found a traditionel Sikaflex..but it was all dryed up.April 19, 2017 at 12:16 #49680Quentin HallParticipantForgot that Sikaflex is always dried up when you need it.
Maybe just do like Cadillac would do and drill the lower edge of the Speedo potmetal and screw to the steel piece. Tap the steel 1/4 unf. Put cloth tape or thin rubber between the pieces so no rattle tho. Two screws would do it.

That special bending tool looks just like a hammer to me….:)
Where are we on the paint job? Can’t wait to see it in color.

May 7, 2017 at 08:38 #50102PalleJParticipantwell Torchie..the plan was actuelly to have it in paint by now. but i realized it wasnt realistic to have all the small details ready that fast.
i am glad i waited, because i went back to the first color i had in mind, and i just had it mixed and sprayed to take a better look. and it looks just stunning. i send Rik a sample, and i hope the weather is better today in Holland, so that he can see the color better. i might keep that color as a secret for a while. i wanna be sure that its the one. i wanna paint the car in gloss black to make sure everything is okay. i want it to be perfect.
heres the color i thought i was going for untill 2 weeks ago. a green special mix. its the green on top. the sprayes sample it the same color but with bronze powder in the clear. a picture does not show what that bronze does to the paint…when looking at it in the sun, it almost feels alive…and has this 40´s feeling to it..
i also started to mess around with this diamont pattern for my cluster. i know i can buy this shit somewhere…but i like the fact that i can do it my self. i wanna make an exact copy of the original one. so next is to downsize the tool to the same size pattern. well at least i now know what to do..or even better not to do haha
stay tuned…thanks
May 7, 2017 at 17:00 #50109TorchieParticipantNice job on the machined turned panel Palle. That was one of Von Dutch’s favorite things to do. If you have ever seen any pics of his old Bus/ workshop/house he turned all kinds of panels. Takes a lot of patience.
The green is stunning but I am sure that what ever color you have decided on, the car will be stunning as well. Picking a color is always a hard choice for me. To paraphrase Ed Roth……A car in primer is like a blank canvas. The possibilities are endless.

Here is a hood my mate has for a V16 with engine turned pattern. I’ve always wanted to try it.
How did you hold the panel and the drill to get such uniform spacing?
May 7, 2017 at 23:55 #50111TonyParticipantDrill press and fence.
May 8, 2017 at 20:12 #50144KingKustomsParticipantWow, that green would be stunning…and a nice nod to early Barris 🙂
