If only those that admire the final product could see what really goes into a proper, artfully done custom.  This is fascinating work fellas!  (Rik, you seem even more involved with this one.  Maybe it should be your custom – you know you need one!).

The frames were laser cut from the digital files based on the original design.

May 13, 2020 at 17:22 #67347Rik HovingKeymasterA bit more progress from Palle on the rear quarter windows.
With the windows on a bit different angle and the new frames created Palle thought it would be good to get the roll up and down mechanism all sorted while the whole new assembly was still off the car, and access was way easier than ones it would have been welded in place.

I’’be got to consider the window mech for the doors and it’s going to be a squeeze but I need the outer shape of the body to dictate the givens of limitation. I’d prefer roll up mechs but the Saab doors are sitting there with clean electric mechs…. we’ll see.
the simple die use is also great on Palle’s inner frames. Good way to get some rigidity in there.May 20, 2020 at 09:08 #67441Rik HovingKeymasterAnd it now will roll up and down…

August 10, 2020 at 08:58 #68122Rik HovingKeymasterAfter struggling with the rear quarter window reinforcement section Palle finally finished the piece to where it all works and he is happy with it. In the end he decided to use a small portion of the original reinforcement piece and welded that to the new section.
All the parts for the passenger side have been pre-made in the process as well, so that will be a lot more easy to do.
And yes, all this will be covered by sheet metal on the outside and upholstery on the inside!
