I got an email from Maik from Germany about an rather wildly restyled ’55 Mercury he came across in an old Custom Car magazine. Asking if I knew anything about it. I don’t think I have seen it before, or even heard about it. But perhaps some of our N.Y. readers remember Mickey Taylor, of Blasdell N.Y. 1955 Mercury.
Hello Rik,
This is Maik from Germany. I’ve found a hot custom article in an old custom magazine. Do you know anything about if the car is still existing? Maybe you want to ask this question on your website. Please let me know.
Kind regards,
Maik

This car was built around 1959 because I remember him driving his kids to school in it. I was 9 at the time and my best buddy was Mickey’s shop boy. There was nothing ever seen like this in western NY and it was amazing in person. Always flat black and LOW!!! Mickey built a lot of custom cars and trucks that were show winners out of that shop. His sons now carry on building custom cars and there is a tattoo shop in the building!
Mickey’s daily driver was a 1940 ford coupe with a Buick nailhead with 3 dueces that beat everything on the street! Nobody left his shop without leaving 100ft rubber marks in front. Needless to say the local law was not happy!
To this day his shop is the epicenter of the custom car world in our area. I consider myself very lucky to have walked by his shop everyday on my way to school! One day he had a 40 ford convertible for sale with a sign in the windshield that said $5. Unbelievable!September 19, 2017 at 20:41 #53651tim ostranderParticipantI don’t know if it still exists but I’m going to stop into iron Horse south and ask them.

This gentleman also bought the ’40 ford coupe I mentioned previously.

Was the top changed back to the stock hight or was just the roof skin replaced to get rid of the extension? That would be an change that I consider to be helpful to the design.
Are there any actual photos existing? I don’t dare to ask if the actual owner wants to sell the car. So if you hear that the car is for sale in future, please let me know.
