Part 1
Coming is Part 2 on how you can do it at home with citric acid in a bin from home depot….!
If you are looking to strip your body of your prized KUSTOM…To have that perfect foundation to build on. Don’t let some one gat a D.A sander with 80 and 40 grit sand paper go BANANAS on the nice tin of your prized ride….!!
A lot of people don’t relies that once you let some one GO BANANAS on the metal with 80 grit sand paper it changes the whole characteristics and permanently leaves deep scratches on your metal.
Tho as pain stakenly as it is , Paint stripping you body chemically is the best way to do things. Because it is only the removal of old paint and filler that your trying to achieve, Thus giving you that nice clean foundation to do body work on all nice and shiny so you can see what your doing and what you have to fix.
It is extremely difficult to wet sand a car to bare metal and have it in that shiny condition you some of those good looking 1940 Mercs and 1936 Ford coups. Those guys have spent um teen hours in OLD FASHION ELBO GRAESE to get there car in bear metal and smooth with no 240 grit or 180 grit or 80 grit marks in But maybe in about 320 grit range….!
Now we all know that building car nice car or kustom involves a lot of MAN FEELINGS…I mean not the ones you give you wife or girlfriend…!!! Because they never get those feeling you have for your Kustom and old INDIAN Motocycle in my case ..!!
Now there is nothing worse then having some one tell you all the B.S in the world to take your hard earned cash and rub the holey BA- GEEEZE -ERS out of your body only to show you how awesome there BONDO filling skills are as seen on the latest MERC that for some reason has me bent out of shape….!!!
I think once I saw the JACK CALORI restoration , I was bent out of shape because it deserved the best BARRIS / WESTERGARD body work on such a historical car…. And I just feel it deserved more love….
Now I can tell you from personal experience that there is nothing more sad then some guy who loves his car , With his head down and his pissed off wife in the truck with his beloved car on the trailer showing up at your shop asking you if you can fix his car because some one left D.A 320 marks in the full fill primer only to paint it CANDY APPLE RED but used some fake 3 stage wanna be CANDY paint that has tiger stripes all over it.
So now you know the guy has just about NO MONEY LEFT and his wife is willing to have him move into your shop with you to fix it, Then you have to tell him what you need to do and find a cost that will repair the job to give the guys self esteem back. Or in same cases tell the guy he can not afford you and to learn from his lesson. Or lower your standards find a way to make it work and correctly put the car into a position were the guy some what learns this hard earned lesson………..
To me there is nothing more for filling then knowing what lies underneath a paint job. Id rather have my car in bare metal and scotch it every day the same way you find the time you tell your wife you love her, But really alls I want to do is get the can of sewing machine oil to scotch my car….The feeling of knowing you have a perfect foundation under your paint is just the best feeling for every car guy……
Ive had to pull myself up at car shows because alls I do is walk around looking for sand marks in paint jobs…..!! It usually turns into some paranoid car guy who got screwed over asking me ” WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING AT ” NOTHING is my reply…. But deep down I know that his car building experience was a painful one, Then I look at his hot wife and he looks like he gets lucky 1 day a week and the rest is murder…!!!
But all things aside there is another factor, Some cars were built only with one custom resto and when the guys did it the car was near new and a virgin. So this means you might have to work several stages back wards before even getting to the point were the car surface is sound enough to work on.
All in all these is nothing like the feeling of a nice clean , Smooth shiny body on your body…… Peace of mind and you are happy from the very start, So if the paint job goes south and your not happy at least the paint can be paint stripped and redone, But once you butcher the metal surface youll be of those ” I DONT KNOW ” what they did guys…..
Now I never hear guys at car shows asking who built your motor…!! Lets be real , Alls I hear is who painted your car….!! And did the body work……!
Now these guys at METALWORKS in Eugene Oregon do some awesome body stripping……!!
There is nothing worse then having a 1955 CADILLAC chassis that has rust all the way up the boxed channel and you DONT WANT TO SAND BLAST IT SO ITS LIKE YOUR at the beach every time sand falls out of it for the next 100 years…!!!
There re not to many palces I know that dip cars like this due to the E.P.A restriction’s….
These guys do a wonderful job and I would not hesitate using there service……
The state of Oregon has 3 awesome things going for it First is there is a lot of OLD CALIFORNIA CUSTOMS hidden there,

Last but not least Oregon has the awesome car dipping service……!!!!
