I have had the pleasure of working on this 1951 Mercury coupe for Jeff MacMillan in the past few months and after initially coming to me for some mild kustom work and surprise rust repair along the way, Jeff has decided to go ahead and chop it 🙂
Here are some pictures of my progress to date. The car is one of the most solid Merc coupes that I have ever seen, but since it had the accessory rocker panel stainless, the large trim holes allowed water in and there was some usual rust repair needed. The same goes for the typical Merc rust spots; front fender bottoms, rear quarters, etc. Nothing too crazy.
The grill is a tribute to the Ayala Brothers-built Al Glickman Merc convertible seen on the cover of Hop Up magazine in May, 1953. It is an ultra rare ’52 Ford Monarch grill with modified ends, floating in a ’50 Merc grill shell.
Tail lights are ’51 baby Lincoln, dropped down a bit. Rear bumper is ’51 Merc that has been shaved with a ’52 Kaiser guard that has been narrowed.
Stay tuned for more…chop will start very soon 🙂

I will update this post as I make progress on the chop…thanks for looking!
Here is a photoshop done by Rik Hoving so we can see how it will look with a 3″ chop, shaved driprails, and slanted B pillar.
Thanks,

Special thanks to my friend Matt Townsend for the help on the new rockers and lower quarter panel patches…if anyone is looking for brand new ’49-’51 Mercury sheetmetal (rockers, floors, lower quarter panel patches), give him a call- he has extremely nice stuff coming out of his shop in Riverside, California (951)833-1835
