My buddy and I have been talking about saving up some money and going to one big car show this season ( somewhere in the U.S.). We were planning on spending the whole weekend somewhere so we were thinking something that would last the whole weekend. I’d really like to go to the Custom Car Revival. If you were to pick just one, which would it be?

May 12, 2018 at 07:20 #58602Rik HovingKeymasterThe Custom Car Revival is one that I really want to go to. I have never been there and I have only heard amazing stories about it, and seen fantastic photos and magazine features on it.
On the other hand I have been to the Grand National Roadster Show in Pomona California two times, and had a really good time there. The major plus of the CCR is that is strictly Customs, where the GNRS has only one building devoted to Customs, and the majority of the cars is Hot Rod, Street Rod and Street Machines. But the major plus for the GNRS is that it is in California, and the trip can be combined with visits to many Custom Car related spots, and visiting some of the major well known body shops etc.
Enjoy the beauty of Customizing

You must have a time machine with your bucket list…been decades since an Oakland roadster show…unless that’s what you mean?
Along with Rik, LA is gold. If I hadn’t been there for the LARS, I would not have been able to visit so many shops and museums, let alone being able to sit in both the Calori coupe and the Barris Merc.

You’re both wrong hahaha…it was never officially called the Oakland Roadster Show- that’s just a longstanding nickname for the Grand National Roadster Show. I had to pick on you…sorry 🙂
West Coast Kustoms Santa Maria is coming up Memorial Day weekend and although it’s not the old Paso Robles vibe, it’s still a great show. I have missed going for a few years now because I always have something that pops up that weekend. Penny and the WCK crew put a ton of effort into making sure everyone has a great time and there are a lot of neat things in the area and on the drive up (from SoCal).
LA Roadsters Show on Father’s Day weekend is always good and tends to attract some kustoms in the preferred parking area and swap meet section (even those just on display and not for sale). You can see the Wally Parks NHRA museum and do the Walden/SoCal open houses that weekend, too. Those are awesome.
Grand National Roadster Show in January is my favorite because it always has new builds and a little bit of everything. Go Saturday so you get the bonus of the drive-in cars between the buildings (outside).
The Custom Car Revival looks very good…I have been tempted to hop on a plane and check that one out!

You can spend a few days driving around to all of the old kustom spots…I’d recommend seeing a lot of the Barris locations before the sun goes down 😉

(No capitalisation for ‘roadster’)
May 16, 2018 at 00:53 #58642Dave (a.k.a. rodncustomdreams)ParticipantLet me add my vote for the Custom Car Revival in Indianapolis for the reasons above ..and/or the Grand National Roadster Show – January in Los Angeles (the L.A.R.S. in June is focused on hot rods – mainly roadsters of course ‘tho customs do show up; and a large swap meet, so would be less interesting to customs fans). Having said that, the West Coast Kustoms weekend is on my bucket list as it looks like a great time too! Where ever you choose, be sure to let us know all about the experience!

May 18, 2018 at 18:21 #58724ShanahanParticipantThanks for the input gang. I think we may shoot for the GNRS this year because I forgot the Custom Car Revival is in June and we haven’t really started saving any money yet. I think we’ll definitely plan on the Revival for next year.
