    I wish Grant would move to Brisbane. Heck there is a spare shed in the old complex beside me. $200 pw. Paulā€™s place is 800m away. A 41 cad sedanette belongs to the guy next door . Two Broughams across the road. The driveway is a bit steep so we have to keep the bums more than a cigarette packet low. The 39 might just be sleeping in it presently.

    <p style=”text-align: left;”>Hey guys. Been a bit slack lately.</p>
    I sold my 36 so we could buy our new house, and at the same time sold my 41 to put a little cash towards the new house and buy a later model, more family friendly old car ( not custom related).

    The new owner of the 41 asked if I could finish some work on it and I’ve been slowly plugging away on it over the last year.

    Will post some photos soon.

    Anyway after attending the Baron’s beat up last year I just got bitten by the early ford bug again, not that I really got over it but it hit me hard and I just had to have an old ford again. The day I returned from the beat up I got a message from the guy who bought the 36 asking if I knew anyone who wanted to buy it.

    I said, “Yeah me! But I don’t have any money!” He asked if I wanted to trade it for an old Harley I had and I said yes, and the deal was done. By the end of the week I had my 36 back!

    So the first thing was to fix up the quarters to look more like 41 instead of the later ones. Then I started to shave the fuel filler.

     

    Sorry if photos are out of order and progress may seem a bit jumpy. I didn’t take that many photos and I’m having trouble uploading it on my phone.Ā  So I’ll do my best.

     

    Anyway the next step was to mould the fenders and shave the trunk handle. I welded the fenders on before I started the molding but didn’t get photos of that.Ā 20180615_12042220180703_17282320180707_111202

    I’ll add in that there are things I would love to do to this car ( trim shortening, trim removal, seam welding etc) but with the owner’s budget and my lack of time we have had to be selective about what I do and don’t do. When it heads down to it’s new home it will get some more body work and a paint job, as well as the top so I’ll let the owner decide what custom work he does.

    So as shown in the previous photo i rechopped the winsheild. Now it’s at about 4.5″ of height taken out.

    There is a lot of work that I won’t bother posting. It’s taking ages to upload photos so I’ll stick to the interesting stuff. There’s a lot of work that has gone into the doors, pillars and quarters to finish off the convertible conversion, as well as a bunch of rust repairs. I had to remake the inner and outer roll Pan as it was made up of duct tape and body filler.

    We decided to do a recessed licence plate. I’ll let Mark ( the owner ) sort out the glass for it.

    As you can see I welded the rear valance on and fitted a later model bumper with Chevy bumper guards. They’re just what I had laying around but they work much better than the standard ones.

    It was a conscious decision to leave the decklid corners square. They look nice rounded but I love the look of square corners with the molded fenders and that. It reminds me of the Zaro Ford which has been a big influence on this build.

    This is pretty much where I’m up to now. I’m not doing all the body work, just smoothing out the work I have done and Mark will do another round of body work and prime and paint. I will give it a quick flick of black before it goes down to him just to clean it up a bit for him.

    Thanks Rik. It’s taken a long time to get to this stage as the new home and two kids take up a fair chunk of my time. As well as trying to find “me” time. However Mark has been fantastic, very understanding and he’s just letting me do my thing. I couldn’t ask for more.

    Really keen to see some colour on this thing so I can start to put it back together for it’s 2000km trip home!
