It’s great to see this truly one of a kind car back in the limelight where it belongs.
One can only wonder what kind of crowds the original Hirohata Merc would draw if it ever came out to play again.
Once again, Bravo to all involved in pulling off this seemingly monumental task.

“Someone asked if we did anything under the hood and yes we did. Engine and trans were pulled for cleaning and paint, and everything else was either cleaned, buffed, polished or painted. A little metal work was done as well to one of the wheel wells which for some reason was cut in half and only then screwed back together with a small plate. Yes it runs and drives now as well.”

I think that might be the first pictures I’ve seen of Larry. So glad he decided to restore it. Sure turned out splendid.

The car will go back to the Klairmont Museum, and they soon will announce the dates when the car will be there for public viewing.

Just days before being shipped off from Chicago to Geneva to debut the Golden Sahar II at the Auto Show with GoodYear Tires, disaster truck. The car was damaged on the way from the Klairmont Museum to the shipper. Total PANIC….
Danrr Auto Body came to the rescue and did an incredible repair job in less than 5 days, and the team was able to get the car ready just before the shipping deadline. Some corners had to be cut to make all that happen, but the car was repaired good enough for its debut. At that time it was already known that on its return to the US the repair work would have to be looked at again, and it would then be decided how to fix it properly, and how to get the rest of the car restored for which SpeakEasy, as agreed on with all parties, did not have enough time to do the first time around.
Then on the way from Geneva to Chicago the GSII suffered some new damage, and upon arrival it was decided that the whole car would have to be repainted, and all the previous hasty repair work fixed properly. The new restoration was handled again by Danrr Auto Body who had come to the rescue earlier.
A few days ago the restoration was nearly completed and the GSII made it back to the Klairmont Kollection Museum. where the car will be put back together while on display. The Restored GSII will be making its first US Show debut at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas in November.

“We @danrrautobody had the honor of fixing THE GOLDEN SAHARA II after an unfortunate accident happened in transit to the airport for the Geneva show in Switzerland back In February of this year. We had 5 days to repair the damages to make the show in Switzerland. We made the dead line for the show but not everything was able to be fixed in the 5 short days to the standards that the car deserves. The golden Sahara II was to return to DANRR AUTO BODY to finish the repair after the Geneva show. The golden Sahara II returned in late summer for it to be completely redone. Now that the car is finished and back @klairmont_kollections we are sharing this story with u. The golden Sahara II will be making its American debut at the @semashow in Las Vegas this year in November. As the days lead up to the Sema show we will be posting photos of the 1st round of damage and the road to restoring the car once it returned. We would like to give a special thanks to @klairmont_kollections for giving us the opportunity to repair then restore THE GOLDEN SAHARA II. Also a big thanks to @axaltarefinish for supplying us with the quality products.”
