Yesterday, the sad news of Gene’s passing was shared on Social Media.

One of the last of the original Custom Car legends is gone. What an incredible sad day. But what a legend Gene Winfield was. Within moments of the news being shared Social Media was covered with photos and stories about Gene Winfield. Everywhere the stories about people who shared wonderful memories about how they met Gene, how they worked with Gene, how they got inspired by Gene. It was so heart warming to see all these messages on such a sad day.

    Thank you Gene.

Gene Winfield was a very inspirational kustom car guy , I briefly worked for him -89-90 and he showed me alot of sheet metal crafting techniques . I was part of working on his -67 Chevrolet truck among other projects , one movie project was to make a seat that looked like the seat catching and electrocuting a burglar for a short commercial in one of the “Back to the future” movies . During that time he also found my -51 Merc project which me and his main guy Rob helped picked up with Genes Dodge van and trailer , I got to tinker with my Merc in his shop on off hours , therefor I needed to get to be friend with his vicious guard dog , a German shepherd … memories … he will continue to live in our minds and continue inspire with his monumental kustom car deed forever !

    Rest in piece Gene !

I met Gene very briefly one hot California day when we gave him a ride on the L.A. Roadsters courtesy cart.  It was his birthday and he was in the best of moods – asking all sorts of questions of this Canuck custom fan.  A very fond and memorable 30 minutes of my life..

R.I.P. Mr. Winfield.  Thank you for the legacy you’ve provided the custom car world.
