The elimination of the rear door and extended front door in your Photoshop really works well, makes the car look much longer. Great work.

For my Pontiac 59 trim, I can’t find a welder who can weld.. I’ll try an invisible binding system..GoOd TiMeS !
December 20, 2021 at 08:32 #72473TonyParticipantIt’s stainless I assume? Surely someone? Even if it’s an exhaust shop?
December 20, 2021 at 10:16 #72475TinwolfParticipantDo you have the missing piece ? Hirohata Merc also got the door trim pieces spliced together so you be in good company . I would guess a clip that guide both pieces needs to be made . I have welded many thin stainless trims and its not easy besides the fact they are usually lower grade stainless (magnetic) , they still dont rust if kept clean but more modern stainless have different higher grade alloys and that usually result in a slightly different “color” of the polished stainless in the weld . This means the added welding-rod needs to be same grade stainless as the sidetrims . I have both tried MIG and TIG welding and I have to discourage MIG-welding , partly because it splatter molten metal that can stick to the trim and its very hard to not melt thru = the trim needs to be protected on both sides of the weld for this reason even for TIG welding . On the other hand TIG-welding also needs to be cranked down to not melt thru and the weld puddle oxidize on the back side where the melted puddle is exposed to air . When the pros weld stainless pipe they use a secondary argon source which protect the back side but I never tried that … I grind both sides and it usually works well . So with that in mind splicing the trim pieces together is not such a bad idea there is also a part of the trim profile that is fairly flat on the -59 Pontiac trim that could be easy to warp much like the -52-53 Buick side trim soooo … if you cut both piece open and make a clip that guides both profiles hard against each other and then even tack weld them on the back side , then polish over should make it pretty .
a clip (red) that is possibly made from 2-3mm thick stainless , tacked (black) on the back side will guide the trim (blue) good enough ?!
