I walked into Vintage Motorsports of Sarasota, FL today for a look around.
Amid all the gorgeous classics and sports cars, I was surprised to find a 1947 Mercury customized by George and Sam Barris. At least, that’s what the paperwork said. It had a verification paper from Barris Kustom Industries signed by George himself.

The car last sold for $54,000 at the Mecum Auction in 2010. Current asking price is $125,00.

I took some pics with my cell phone, but the quality is poor.

Here is a link to Vintage motorsports and a link to a sale page for better photos:

I have seen this one for sale several times… An always doubted about its Barris origins. Now if they would have stated that Barris did it in the late 1940’s or early 1950’s… Then perhaps yes. But I seriously doubt The Barris shop would turn out such an outdated custom in the 1960’s, as the paperwork says that comes with the car. Nice car tough.

That was my impression, too. It’s also possible that Barris did some work, early on, and things just got revised with each new owner and changing fashions.
