Hi!
I have just started working on my Ford 1936 Roadster.
bought the car (parts) in Norway 2009, and have collect parts before i could start the project.
The plan is a traditional car in 40´s style! BUT still not sure about what year? it looks like it will be like 47-48! time will tell!
for the moment im working on the chassis and now i need some advice from you guys!
have planned to raise the rear crossmember ca 2-3″ but: was this common in the 40´s?
not trying to build a taildragger, so a de-arched spring can do a lot!
like to see pics of old restored customs and on the frame´s!plan is a stock frame, 39 rearend, 39 steering, maby 39 frontend or an unverified axle with 1.1/2″ extra drop.
Widefive wheels, 1940 pedals, a sideshift gearbox and 100hp engine!February 3, 2015 at 15:24 #22089AndreasParticipantFebruary 3, 2015 at 16:04 #22090Rik HovingKeymasterYeah…. I have been waiting for you to get started on this one ever since you mentioned the project to me at the 2014 OSW.
There are some photos of the Pierson Coupe in THIS CCC-Tread. On page one and two. I will think about some other places. I just did an article on the Dick Fowler 1938 Ford on the main board. That also shows the frame, but not to well.

February 3, 2015 at 21:51 #22101J.B.ParticipantGreat to see you start up a thread, Andreas! I guess I will start up one in a while too. Just to get the inspiration from more people to get things done. 🙂
I think your car will have a very pleasant 1947-48 California kustom look with a lowered rear. So a raised rear crossmember and a C notch can do the trick. It’s a big difference in stance 1941 and 1948, as I can see it. But not as low as in 1950.
Since we will build both our cars in the same era style and only live 20 minutes apart, we will have lots to discuss the coming years. 🙂
February 3, 2015 at 22:45 #22103LarsParticipantHell yeah, it Will be nice to follow..
See you
LarsFebruary 3, 2015 at 23:04 #22104Kenneth KristianssonParticipantAndreas. If you dearch the spring whithout shortening the mainleaf you will get an unprefered angle on the schackles so I defenitly should´ve raised the crossmember and if you´re not going more than 3″ you don´t have to c-notch I think.
February 4, 2015 at 06:09 #22110PaulieParticipantWhat about flattening the crossmember instead of raising?
The Snooky Janich ford flattened the crossmember I do believe. Build started in the late 40s
February 4, 2015 at 06:34 #22114Rik HovingKeymasterI came across this photo of the Jack Calori 1936 Ford…. I assume this was done way back to get the car so low.
Sorry for the small pictures…. all I have.Enjoy the beauty of Customizing
February 4, 2015 at 12:36 #22141AndreasParticipantThanks!
as Kenneth said if i Raise/Flattening the crossmember 2-3″ i don’t think i need to c notch the frame?
but i will try to make some c-notch´s where i can have a bump-stop in.About the Calori coupe:
In Hotrod mag nov 1949 there is a pic/drawing where you can see thru the car, and on that pic the crossmember is almost flat!
on the pics Rik show here the frame is raised a lot maybe 6″? and the crossmember looks like it´s lowered?
Guess the pics of the real car/frame is the correct ones
On the Pierson coupe:
The frame looks stock, a turned head leaf and nothing else?and on the 36 convertible (38 Zephyr):
also an old build and the frame looks stock?
The Dick Fowler 38 looks to have a stock frame until the restoration when it got a big notch!
more pics of restored old kustoms and their frames?
February 5, 2015 at 00:47 #22168TonyParticipantTake a look at the notch I did in my Sloper thread. You could still keep the stock crossmember, either flattened or original if notched like this.

Looks good Tony!
Well i thought it will be best to raise/flatten the crossmember! raised it 2.5″ plus a turned head leaf. hope that will do the trick!
This is where i stopped today, hope to finish the crossmember tomorrow!
then i have to figure out how to make a C with a bump stop inside!
(note the Peltor Kids! had help from my son today and he did his first weld ever on the roadster!)
February 24, 2015 at 09:29 #22746AndreasParticipantThe crossmember is almost done, the round holes where already there there when i bought it!
next will be a small C.
And there is also some action on the chassie parts….. Guess i don´t have to answer the “Traditional” thread about modern parts?
the old Nuts and bolts will be sent to surface treatment
February 27, 2015 at 08:26 #22845Rik HovingKeymasterThanks for the update Andreas.
