Frank DeRosa’s The Golden Piranha and the ‘1951 Mercury 4-door have been for Sale for a while, after the DeRosa family bought them back from the late Blackie Gejeian. Insane Design recently shared on his Instagram that a good customer of his has acquired both DeRosa Customs and that his shop will be doing a revamp on both cars. Good news!
These Customs, and especially The Golden Piranha have made a huge impact on me when I was a kid. There was a small picture of it in one of the early Chrome and Flames magazines…. and I so much loved the idea of mixing the 50’s Custom Car designs with a late 60’s car…. I so much loved the outside the box thinking that Frank DeRossa did when he created that car. So this one has been special to me ever since.
From Insane Design…
“Enough of the teaser shots…lol… a good customer of mine bought both Frank DeRosa cars, The Golden Piranha, and the 51 Merc. known as Mercury 4. I will be going through them mechanically, and cosmetically. I like cars with history, and these two have plenty of that….”Enjoy the beauty of Customizing

“This is the last night The Golden Piranha will be sleeping in the shop… Both cars are heading to Russo and Steele Auction in Scottsdale next week. Love it or hate it The Golden Piranha is a cool car in it’s own right, and I hope it goes to a good caretaker as well… I leave you with a few rare shots with it aired up a little….

When I saw this listed here about 20K I thought to myself, that an interesting custom in it’s own right and decent price for the work involved, Just not my style. but really 6K at auction!!! I recall this being bought and thought it went to a good home. where is the 40’s Kustom I want at this price!!!!
February 5, 2019 at 05:51 #62726TorchieParticipant$6,000 is about the price of a decent used car in my neck of the woods.
Even though neither car is my cup of tea I hope they both find good homes and stop being passed around like a bowl of candy.

Just think. We could have bought it for 6 grand a month ago…
I guess it still is getting passed around like a bowl of candy.
