My friend Wolf send me this ebay ad of an very nicely done mild customized 1942 Lincoln Custom. When I open the link and look at the first photo I imidiately recognize it as a Lincoln in the Rodder’s Journal Scrapbook… a beautiful black and white photo taken in Los Angeles in 1950 that really stood out to me in the book. The original black and white photo comes from the Steve Box Collection.
The car on ebay has an original Carson Top Shop tag in the re-upholstered top, and the hood now has a hood ornament and the Lincoln scripts on the sides are back. But this must be the same very rare ’42 Lincoln that was customized in the mid to late 1940’s in Los Angeles.
What a find, and amazing that I had never seen the car before. Perhaps the current owner did not show it around much. Hopefully there will be more info and photos of the original version of the car, and a possible new owner will share it.
Here is a link to the eBay ad. Lets home more info will show up sooner or later.
“VERY RARE 1942 LINCOLN CONTINENTAL. This 1942 lincoln has been beautifully modified with a dramatically lowered roofline and a updated post war grille that compliments a removable, non folding, padded and chopped top to create a more elegant, more exclusive restyled look. The ” Carson Top ” was perfectly done by Houser”s Carson Tops of Los Angeles and is an original. The bodywork, paint and brightwork all show very nicely. The interior is near perfect and best of all, it retains a correct flatheat V-12. Production of the 42 coupe was cut short by america”s entry into world war two.Only 200 coupes were built before production ceased. Its been noted that there may only be around 20 or so still in existence today.”
