It’s nozzle dip….. for the welder….. it’s a very large nozzle….. so the larger milk bottle opening is preferable.

Quentin, gotta tell you:  Your approach to finding ways to achieve the flowing design elements you envision, by making “function follow form” is a really inspirational clinic in thinking “outside the box”.

Boxes.  Boxes stacked on boxes.  Back in the Twenties, the engineering of functional parts and pieces, dictated just what latitude body designers were forced to live with.  Never would a rounded door form have been thought possible. The mechanical engineers severely limited the designers’ dreams.  What you are demonstrating, as did Georges Paulin, turns the tables, for sure.  You want a beautiful rounded door?  No problem, thrown out traditional hinges (front or back) and go cantilever.

Not to mention your adapting the Saab disappearing top mechanism.  True customizing!  Just to say,

    Gobsmacked!

You hit the nail on the head there Larry. An engineer makes form follow function. An artist makes Function follow form.

I have shocked myself on this one and can’t believe that everything has just fallen together. So many variables that potentially could have spelled disaster but every thing just flows any which way you look.

The door opens and closes as it should. ( bushes are a bit tight so I need a stronger gas ram. But that is an easy fix and better tight than sloppy).

I hammered over the edge and door needs to come forward 3 mm but I’m so happy. SO HAPPY!!!87D2DA51-1EF7-4234-95CF-FC5AE7D658289514B7D4-A090-4770-885C-10D9FD517BBFD1531BF8-AB17-4FF7-A013-D7FE9DCD05766C82ADD8-E1BA-4635-BB78-6490695214DE

Thanks guys. It’s nice vindication ( even for me to see it at this stage) .

Probably the best thing about the original purchase was that it was so bad that it really did give me a blank canvas. I had a look at the first few pages of this thread. It was here that the ideas were germinated.

I had to laugh remembering when I brought the rear guards home before I picked up the rest of the car and set them up on the lawn with the garden chairs and turned the trunk lid upside down …. that was the first moment… then remember when James tweaked Rik’s yellow photoshop and then Wolf moved the cowl back and savagely chopped it…. that was the second.

So I thank you all here for your comments and constructive criticism and ideas.  I’ve prepared Commemorative Thunder Jugs as a Thankyou for you all.  I’ll send out soon. 425CD1B7-CB03-4F0E-B8A5-CB9A1D0F28C0
