I went down to the shed this arvo. Put the top up and down 10 times to look how the mechanism works and see where there was room for modification using a sheet of Masonite to simulate the glass… and I found the solution. It’s an easy fix.
….. hope photo explains it.. I need one of those screen pens and not my fat finger.
Well after looking at pics over and over and then looking at the car, I realised that the top well needed to go further back and lower. So I pulled out all apart and recut the wheel wells and positioned it nearly 120mm further back and lowered it another 30 mm at the front. Suddenly it all can together like it was made for it. The curves all align and there is room for the guards to be bolted on.
Curious to see a side shot now Quentin. I imagine the leading edge of the top is in a better spot as well. I like that you can revisit and revise as each move seems to take you to an even better look than the step before. Good stuff!
Quentin, Every day I am amazed and excited to see your progress and ingenuity. Your Packard will be stunning when completed! Man you get a lot done in a short time.
Thanks for the encouragement guys. It’s great when things fall into place.
I folded up inner sills yesterday. I need to get some structure in place to support it all. Found this pic this morning. Earlier but still has the aesthetics I’m going to achieve.
It’s the 38 thru 40 cars that just blow me away. So far I’ve spent about $2000 on the Packard in total, plus my time. ( which is worthless these days. How about this $5 million Erdmann and Rossi Horsch?
