That really means a lot to me, Kenneth! I love seeing your metalwork on here so I thought I would add some of the things I have done over the years. Hopefully it will inspire people.

It was at Winfield’s place for years and had fiberglass quarter panels and front end on it with an original steel hood. He wanted me to install original fenders, make a kustom grill opening, pull the head lights and fenders out like the Wally Welch Merc (but a bit farther), ’52 Merc head light bezels, ’55 Dodge front bumper, mold in replacement steel quarters, ’51 Lincoln rear bumper, kustom tail lights, and make a steel Carson top with a cut down (laminated repop) ’51 Merc rear window in it. I also frenched in some ’51 skirts, added ’53 Merc front wheel lips, extended the hood and rounded the corners, and rebuilt all of the beltline and A pillars from scratch because they had over 1/2″ of bondo in them. Kevan Sledge and I tag-teamed the top and knocked it out in four days. This car was sculpted out of bondo when it came here. When it left, all of the chrome was finished and the car was ready for body and paint…last time I saw it, it had a coat of epoxy primer on it. It had a 472 Cadillac in it with a Camaro clip. Wolf in Sweden made the grill and I believe the Matranga/Hirohata style side glass when he lived in the states…

April 14, 2017 at 09:24 #49591TonyParticipantThat grille bar looks nice.

Thanks! It’s pretty simple if you use the rod opening that Winfield provides. They always need a little tweaking to fit the body and be symmetrical but once they fit nicely, I weld them on where I want them and check measurements. Then I cut the opening out and clean it up. They come with a fiberglass light bulb backing that can be shaved down to fit inside the fender and two 1/4″-20 studs welded in place hold that on. I’ll see if I have some pictures. What makes it difficult or time-consuming is filling in a previous tail light hole, which was the case on Sam’s Merc.

King KustomsMarch 7, 2018 at 23:29 #57212KingKustomsParticipantHere is Phil’s ’51 Ford from Seattle. It came down for a chop like my personal ’50 Ford and other kustom metalwork/rust repair. There was some downtime due to my shop being put up in the meantime, so I am very grateful for Phil’s patience. More pics soon 🙂
