Yes, and NO. This is such a small little family community. We are all connected and share each other’s stories, pains and sufferings, wins and losses, strengths and weaknesses.
Mike, speedy recovery. Focus on the positives and get back on the horse as quickly as you can.November 26, 2016 at 15:21 #45024TorchieParticipantJust read of your accident Mike.
I add my voice to the others when I wish you a full recovery.
As someone that has had more then some medical issues my only advice is to keep positive and don’t cut yourself short on your healing time no matter how badly you want/need to get back at it.
Strength and peace to you and keep us posted on your recovery.
As Quentin said. We are a family…
TorchieNovember 26, 2016 at 15:42 #45025James DParticipantOh man, that sounds bad.
Still, you have the thought of getting back on with your project to speed your recovery!

November 30, 2016 at 01:24 #45159mike suttonParticipantthanks to everyone for the positive words. been 2 weeks now and i’m getting around pretty good. still not allowed to drive but the concussion is getting better and the lights don’t seem to bother me as much. still pretty bruised up but getting better. already getting stir crazy. neck brace 8-10 weeks and plenty of doctor appointments till then. things could always be worse so i’m not complaining. thanks again, mike
November 30, 2016 at 01:36 #45160mike suttonParticipantdigging through some pictures just to see what i could add here and found a couple of shots of dual antennas i sunk in the upper drivers side quarter panel. started with some 1 1/2″ pipe, capped one end, drilled a mounting hole for the antenna and welded on a tube for a drain.
then using an 1 1/2″ hole saw i drilled straight down into the quarter panel giving me 2 oval shaped openings.
then dropped the pipes into the openings, made some marks (see first picture), took them back out and cut to size.

November 30, 2016 at 07:18 #45164Tom KellyParticipantAntennas look good Mike, don’t forget to run those drain tube somewhere! How do you paint inside those successfully?
Keep your chin up mate, we’re all rooting for you. Rest up, hope you heal and feel better soon.
December 1, 2016 at 01:41 #45180mike suttonParticipantthanks guys. and Tom the drain tubes will get rubber hoses that run down and through the inner rocker and dump on the ground. as far as the paint inside, yeah that’s going to be a pain. i’m going to try to get some paint in the lower part ahead of time then just spray the upper part with the rest of the car. as long as the top half looks decent i think the antennas will cover most of the bottoms. (or else i’m completely wrong!)
December 1, 2016 at 16:29 #45196TorchieParticipantNice job on the sunken Antennas Mike.
Glad to hear that you are on the mend as well.
TorchieDecember 2, 2016 at 21:27 #45242mike suttonParticipanthad a chance to trade the stock ford steering wheel for a ’57 olds wheel and column. both needed some work but i liked the look of it and the ’57 column fit right into the ’56 mount that came with the dashboard. here’s a quick fit.
like i said it needed some work. chrome needed redone, horn ring was broke.
and the wheel had plenty of cracks to be fixed.
